Motorised Shading

Motorised blinds & curtains designed & installed across Cheshire

Sonor designs and installs motorised blinds, curtain tracks and shading for homes across Chester, Cheshire, the Wirral and North Wales — integrated with Lutron and Control4 so the shading, lighting and the rest of the house work as one system rather than another remote on the table.

Shading is part of the lighting design, not an accessory

Daylight is the most powerful light source in any room, and motorised shading is how you control it. Done well it does the same job as a good lighting scheme: it sets the mood, protects furniture and artwork from the sun, keeps south-facing rooms comfortable in summer, gives privacy at dusk without anyone walking round the house, and lets a cinema or media room go properly dark in the middle of the afternoon. That is why we design shading alongside the lighting and automation, with the same keypads, the same scenes and the same schedules, rather than as a separate product bolted on at the end.

We have been specifying Lutron lighting and shading for over twenty years and are a Control4 Authorised Dealer, so every blind we install is controllable from the interface you already use for everything else.

What we install

Motorised roller blinds

Lutron Sivoia and Palladiom roller shades in sheer, dim-out and full blackout fabrics, with fascias and pockets that make the hardware disappear. Whole rows move together at the same speed, in silence.

Motorised curtain tracks

Drapery tracks for full-height glazing, bay windows and bi-folds, with the curtain pole or track chosen with your interior designer so the fabric and the finish are right.

Roman, honeycomb & venetian

Where a roller blind isn't the look — period rooms, bedrooms, kitchens — motorised Romans, Palladiom honeycomb and wood venetians give the same control with a different character.

Cinema & media room blackout

Side-channel blackout blinds that seal the reveal, so a cinema room or living-room media wall can be used properly in daylight.

External shading & pergolas

Motorised external screens, awnings and louvred pergola roofs for terraces, pool houses and garden rooms, controlled from the same system and responsive to wind and sun sensors.

Scenes & schedules

Blinds that follow the sun through the day, lower at dusk with the evening lighting, close for a film and open gently with the morning alarm. Astronomic clock, so the timings shift with the seasons on their own.

Wired for new builds, wireless for existing homes

For new builds and major renovations we cable every window during first fix — a low-voltage or mains feed to each window head and a recessed pocket or headbox designed with the architect — so the motors are powered for life and completely invisible. We provide the window schedule, pocket dimensions and cable drawings to the builder and electrician so the work lands in the right place at the right time. See our new build and renovation guide for what to plan and when.

For existing homes, Lutron's battery-powered shades and wireless motors fit into the reveal with no cabling and no decoration damage, and join the same keypads, app and schedules as a wired system. Batteries last years rather than months, and we set the system to tell you when they need attention. Existing Lutron, Somfy or Control4 shading can usually be brought onto one interface rather than replaced.

Where we install motorised blinds

Throughout Cheshire, the Wirral and North Wales — Chester, Tarporley, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Hale, Bowdon, Heswall, Caldy, West Kirby, Llandudno, Conwy and Abersoch. Shading is usually part of a lighting or whole-home project, but standalone projects — a run of bedrooms, a glazed extension, a cinema room — are welcome.

How a shading project works

Frequently asked questions

Can motorised blinds be fitted in an existing house without rewiring?

Yes. Battery-powered Lutron roller shades and wireless motors fit into existing window reveals with no cabling, and integrate with the same keypads, app and schedules as a wired system. For new builds and renovations we cable each window during first fix so the motors are mains or low-voltage powered and never need charging.

Are motorised blinds noisy?

The systems we specify are near-silent — Lutron's shade motors are designed for bedrooms and move a whole row of blinds in unison at the same speed, which is the detail people notice most.

Do motorised blinds work with Control4 and Lutron lighting?

Yes. Shading is designed as part of the lighting and automation system, so blinds respond to the same scenes and schedules — lowering at dusk with the evening lighting, closing fully for a film, opening gently with the morning alarm — and are controlled from the same keypads, remotes and app.

Can you motorise curtains as well as blinds?

Yes. Motorised curtain tracks, Roman blinds, honeycomb and venetian blinds and external shading are all available, and the fabric is chosen with you or your interior designer so the finished result matches the room.

When should shading be planned in a renovation or new build?

At first fix. A power or control cable to each window head, and a recessed pocket in the ceiling or a headbox in the reveal, are inexpensive to build in and almost impossible to add neatly afterwards. We supply the window schedule and cable drawings to the electrician and builder.

Which areas do you cover for motorised blinds?

Chester and the whole of Cheshire, the Wirral, North Wales and Trafford / South Manchester — typically as part of a lighting or whole-home automation project, but standalone shading projects are welcome.
