Home automation across Cheshire & North Wales

Lighting, climate, audio, cinema, security, blinds and access — designed and installed as one integrated system, controllable from a single app or keypad. Sonor has been installing home automation in Cheshire since 2003.

What home automation looks like in practice

"Home automation" is one of those terms that means different things to different people. For us, it means a house where lighting, climate, audio, video, security and access are designed to work together — controlled from a single platform, programmed around how you actually live, and reliable enough that you don't think about it. Press one button to leave the house: lights off, heating set back, alarm armed. Touch "Goodnight": downstairs lights off, upstairs corridor on, blinds closed, security armed. That's the standard we aim for on every Cheshire install.

It can be as simple as Control4 + Lutron in one room, or as comprehensive as a full Control4 backbone orchestrating dozens of subsystems across a 10,000 sqft new build. Either way, the principle is the same: design first, install second, then live with it for a year and refine.

What we automate

Lighting

Designer keypads, scenes, daylight tuning, circadian lighting, integrated shading — see luxury lighting design.

Climate

Zoned heating & cooling, geofenced setbacks, room schedules, integration with the rest of the smart home. See climate.

Audio & video

Multiroom audio, video distribution, hidden TVs, integrated cinema. See multiroom audio + home cinema.

Security

Alarms, CCTV, smart access, video door-stations, gate intercoms — all on the same dashboard. See CCTV & security.

Networks

Whole-home WiFi, structured cabling, business-grade switches — the backbone every smart home stands on. See whole-home WiFi.

Pools, garages, gates, blinds

Anything with a contact, sensor or motor can be integrated. See pool-house AV.

Working with us

If you're a homeowner planning a new build, full renovation, or significant upgrade, we'd suggest involving us at concept stage — the cost of designing automation in is a fraction of retrofitting it later. If you're an architect, interior designer or developer, we'd love to attend an early design meeting on residential projects in the Cheshire / Wirral / North Wales catchment.

Frequently asked questions

What does a smart home installation actually include?

Whatever the house needs — lighting, multiroom audio, video, heating, blinds, security and the network underneath it, brought together under one simple control system. It scales from a single room to a whole property; we design to how you live, not to a package.

Do you only work on new builds, or can you retrofit an existing house?

Most of our work is in existing homes. Modern systems need far less cabling than people expect, and wireless lighting control means we can usually avoid opening up walls. Where cabling is worth it, we route it cleanly and coordinate with your decorator.

We already have a system — Rako, Lutron, C-Bus or an older setup. Replace or keep?

Usually keep and improve. We review what's installed, upgrade what's worth upgrading and integrate it with new equipment. If a system has lost its original installer, our system rescue service is the place to start.

Which brands do you work with?

We're a Control4 authorised dealer and work daily with Lutron, Rako, Sonos, Ubiquiti and the major AV brands. We specify to the house and the budget, not to a brand.

How much does home automation cost?

It depends entirely on scope — a single-room upgrade and a whole-home system are different projects. Any figure quoted without seeing your house is a guess. Tell us what you're aiming for and we'll give you a straight answer, including where money genuinely improves daily life and where it doesn't.
